Twitter ha desactivado la posibilidad de estar en red con las mujeres y con la propia página WEB. Women on Web fue fundada por Women on Waves en 2005, para responder a la petición urgente de ayuda para un aborto de las mujeres en los países donde este servicio de salud no está disponible.

El trabajo de Women on Web fue presentado recientemente en la New York Magazine y en el documental Vessel, sobre Women on Waves y Women on Web, ella realizada por Diana Whitten, y también disponible a través de iTunes.

Women on Waves es una organización de solidaridad centrada en la salud de la mujer y los derechos humanos. Su misión es proteger la salud materna en la prevención de abortos inseguros. Women on Waves navega en barco a los países donde el aborto es ilegal (para más información ver www.womenonwaves.org). En 2005 se fundó Women on Web, un servicio de telemedicina que apoya a las mujeres en los países donde no hay acceso a un aborto seguro para obtener un aborto médico.

Según la Organización Mundial de la Salud, cada año 42 millones de mujeres tienen un aborto y la mitad de ellos, 20 millones, son ilegales e inseguros. Un aborto con pastillas es muy seguro y efectivo para hacerlo en casa hasta las 12 semanas de embarazo. Es muy similar a un aborto involuntario natural. Millones de mujeres han hecho abortos en su casa en Estados Unidos y Europa y es una práctica habitual allí. Los medicamentos están en la lista de medicamentos esenciales de la OMS.

Mediante la eliminación de la posibilidad de enlazar con o tweet la página web de Women on Web, Twitter ha violado gravemente el artículo 19 de la Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos, el derecho a la libertad de información, así como el artículo 10 de la Convención Europea de los derechos humanos, la la libertad de expresión. WoW ya presentada una denuncia, pero no ha habido respuesta por parte de Twitter.

Twitter has disabled the possibility to link to the Women on Web website or to  tweet a link to the website. Women on Web was founded by Women on Waves in 2005, to respond to the urgent request for help for an abortion of women in countries where this healthcare service is not available.

Its mission is to protect maternal health by preventing unsafe abortions. Women on Waves sails a ship to countries where abortion is illegal (for more information see www.womenonwaves.org). In 2005 it founded Women on Web, a telemedical service that supports women in countries where there is no access to safe abortion to obtain a medical abortion.

According to the World Health Organization, each year 42 million women have an abortion and half of these, 20 million, are illegal and unsafe. An abortion with pills is very safe and effective to do at home till 12 weeks of pregnancy. It is very similar to a natural miscarriage.  Millions of women have done abortions at home in United States and Europe and it is standard practice there.  The medicines are on the list of essential medicines of the WHO.

By removing the possibility to link to or tweet the website of Women on Web, Twitter has severely violated Article 19 of the Universal declaration of Human rights, the right to freedom of information as well as Article 10 of the European convention of human rights, the freedom of expression. WoW already filed a complaint but there has been no response from Twitter.

Women on Waves and Women on Web call upon all twitter users to send a complaint and tweet the hashtag #FreeWomenonWeb.
